July 22, 2024 — Nieca Goldberg, MD, a board-certified cardiologist, educator, author, and advocate for women’s health, has announced that she is returning to practice at NYU Langone Health, where she also serves as Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

In making the announcement, Goldberg, referred to as "Dr. Nieca," wrote: “My career has been dedicated to changing the narrative around women’s heart health, from prevention of heart disease to creating personalized treatment plans that reflect a woman’s health care experience. Additionally, through my work with the American Heart Association and the ‘Go Red for Women’ campaign, I have sought to raise awareness and provide communities with the tools to advocate for their heart health. I will bring these experiences and passions to my work at NYU and look forward to continuing to advance this field with my colleagues.”

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States, yet is still largely observed and treated as a male-focused disease, noted the statement announcing her return to practice. A biographical summary noted that Goldberg is a national spokesperson for the American Heart Association and started the “Go Red for Women” campaign, the American Heart Association's national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women. She also currently serves as Board Member of HealthyWomen, as well as Advisory Board Member of the Barnard Francine A. LeFrak Foundation Center for Well-Being. She previously was medical director of NYU Women’s Heart Program, Senior Advisor of Women’s Health Strategy at NYU Langone Health, and the founder and Medical Director of the Joan H. Tisch Center for Women’s Health at the NYU Langone Medical Center.

Additionally, she currently serves on the Woman’s Day Editorial Advisory Board and hosts the podcast “Beyond the Heart,” and is the author of Dr. Nieca Goldberg’s Complete Guide to Women’s Health. She has also authored Women Are Not Small Men, which was updated and titled The Women’s Healthy Heart Program: Lifesaving Strategies for Preventing and Healing Heart Disease published by Ballantine Books.

A graduate of Barnard College and SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, Goldberg completed her medical residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and a cardiology fellowship at SUNY Downstate.
