ECRI Institute Launches User Review/Rating Tool for Medical Capital Purchases

New feature enables medical equipment users to share their opinions and assign ratings

January 25, 2016 — Now, medical technology purchasers and users have an instant online forum to rate and review technologies they are using, with Rate This Model, the newest enhancement to the ECRI Institute’s SELECTplus capital decision support solutions suite.

The new interactive Rate This Model feature looks and acts just like the popular online user reviews used by consumer travel and shopping sites, offering reviewers a five-star ranking system and comment boxes within which to share their insights about a particular product. A buyer of complicated, expensive medical technologies now has an additional resource to help inform the purchase process—one based on real user experience by the peer community.

Reviews and ratings are included in ECRI’s S+ Market Analytics Tool, where users can get daily insight on key market analytics like top models and manufacturers, market share and average quoted pricing.

When accessing Rate This Model, members will see the total number of users who have reviewed a product and a simple bar graph which shows the spread of ratings, i.e. how many five- star ratings, versus lower ratings. Users rate technologies on the following criteria:

  • Ease of use
  • Performance
  • Reliability
  • Feature set
