December 13, 2011 — Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. has introduced DICOM Radiation Dose Structured Report on all new Infinix-i vascular X-ray systems. The new feature automatically records radiation dose information from every X-ray event, from beginning to end, based on each pedal push administered by the clinician. The data is transferred into a standard format suitable for storage, making it easier for clinicians to document, manage and evaluate overall dose usage.
The report aligns with Medical Imaging & Technology Alliance’s (MITA) initiative that will require vendors to gather radiation dose information. Toshiba’s reports include even more information than will be mandatory; it will be useful for maintaining individual dose records, comparing differences in dose, implementing protocol changes, setting goals for improvement and tracking progress. The information can also be used clinical trials and national registries.
