April 10, 2023 — The 2022 HIMSS Healthcare Cybersecurity Survey results were recently published. The survey reflects the opinions of healthcare cybersecurity professionals that are responsible for either day-to-day operations or oversight of healthcare cybersecurity programs. This industry-wide survey is the fourteenth annual cybersecurity survey for HIMSS.
The findings of the 2022 HIMSS Healthcare Cybersecurity Survey provide an overview of what is happening today in healthcare cybersecurity, including the workforce and current practices. Recommendations are given for the future to promote greater resilience and better security postures.
“We have regularly run annual industry healthcare cybersecurity surveys for over 10 years, and this year, we wanted to challenge assumptions in terms of things that we see reports on, and things that we want to hear from our members,” stated Lee Kim, Senior Principal, Cybersecurity and Privacy, Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) North America, in a video interview with Imaging Technology News (ITN). “We wanted to do a deep dive in terms of asking things relevant to ransomware, asking things relevant to economics, and other topics. I think it will be a very interesting read, because it tests assumptions. Unless we ask those questions, we won’t be able to get those insights, and we won’t be able to essentially be armed with the information that we need, so we can to our boards of directors and leadership, and say we need some additional resources. I think that unfortunately, we see that technology and adversaries are really challenging us in terms of our current baseline state as far as cybersecurity.”
Kim said data collection for the cybersecurity survey primarily occurred during 2022, and it can be found here.
