It takes a patient CT scan and uses both tissue density measured with Hounsfield units and tissue texture to mark off and quantify areas of COVID pneumonia ground glass lesion consolidations. This software was cleared under an FDA emergency use authorization. The green shows areas of normal lung, and areas of red are COVID. The software can auto quantify the areas to use as a baseline to assess patients.

  • Siemens Healthcare showed a deep integration with partner Epsilon Imaging’s echocardiography strain imaging software. The integration eliminates the need for a separate login to the software, and automated quantification is carried over into the report. Strain can be used to assess cardiac function more precisely than regular cardiac ultrasound exams. It has grown in its use for cardio-oncology programs, assessing a baseline cardiac function and performing serial exams over the course of therapy.

    Siemens Healthcare showed a deep integration with new partner Epsilon Imaging’s echocardiography strain imaging software. The integration eliminates the need for a separate login to the software, and automated quantification is carried over into the report. Strain can be used to assess cardiac function more precisely than regular cardiac ultrasound exams. It has grown in its use for cardio-oncology programs, assessing a baseline cardiac function and performing serial exams over the course of chemotherapy. Strain has seen growing interest and has been a hot topic the past couple years at the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) meeting. Interest also has expanded greatly recently with reimbursement now available in the U.S.

  • A lone vendor booth in a sea of open space in a corner of the expo floor at HIMSS 2021. A large number of vendors decided to pull out of exhibiting at HIMSS in recent weeks because the host city of Las Vegas saw a major surge of COVID cases over July, reaching a 20.2% positivity rate on the day HIMSS opened. One entire exhibit hall for several hundred vendors was closed and the other halls had large amounts of open space.  #HIMSS21 #COVID19

The software automatically finds the centerlines for the aorta, coronaries or peripheral vessels for interventional planning assessments. The AI can determine next steps and converse with the patient to find out more about their symptoms before forwarding the information to a human nurse, or it can set up an appointment on schedule automatically to save staff time on the preliminary questions, basic triage or to just set up normal appointments. This is one example of an AI-patient conversation. #HIMSS #AI

The companies said transplant patients often no have data that is needed for a complete review of their case and care spread across several disparate health IT systems. #HIMSS

  • This is an example of improving radiology workflow using the Infinitt PACS to automatically fetch prior exam for a patient and present them in a time line at the top of the page. The radiologist can click on the thumbnails to open the report or get a preview of the images and then open just the images they want. they can greatly speed workflow if the radiologist does not have to search for priors and open the entire exam each time to review the images.

Siemens is creating a series of AI care pathways on its enterprise imaging platform, where the AI pulls in all the relevant data and prior exams for a patient just for a specific condition. This includes a dash board view of a cancer patient's data relevant just to their cancer. It also can be shown as a timeline flow chart, where the AI will suggest next steps for diagnosis or treatment based on the latest guidelines.

  • GE Healthcare showed a small tweak to improve flow and review of multiple images and prior exams by creating a small icon on the thumbnail image of each image. A small green box on the thumbnails of the exams show where theses are located in the multiple screens the radiologist currently has open. They can click on that exam they have interest in and it auto populates they main screen for closer review.
