Only motion-tolerant blood pressure monitors designed specifically for handling the high noise, high motion environment of a stress lab can accurately and reliably collect BP measurements. Ideally, the BP monitor should distinguish Korotkoff sounds (K-sounds) from the large amount of background noise generated during a stress test.

June 1, 2012 — LoneStar Heart Inc. announced the advancement of a new therapeutic strategy aimed at genetic reprogramming of cardiac fibroblasts into functioning heart muscle cells to treat damage following a heart attack and other forms of heart disease. The announcement follows a study conducted by researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UT Southwestern), published in the online May 13 issue of the journal Nature, demonstrating feasibility of the approach. The company has acquired exclusive worldwide rights to the new technology.

Toshiba and Kaleida Health worked closely together to install all 14 systems within three months, ensuring the vascular labs were ready when the new facility’s doors opened.

May 31, 2012 —Occlutech GmbH, the leading European developer of minimally invasive implants for the treatment of structural heart disease, announced receiving a favorable Supreme Court ruling from The Hague in The Netherlands in the ongoing patent litigation with AGA/St. Jude Medical. A first instance court ruling obtained in favour of Occlutech had been appealed by AGA in 2008, as had the favorable appeal court decision obtained in 2010.
