November 17, 2011 - Medical Simulation Corp. (MSC) launched an easy-to-use, portable, high-fidelity endovascular procedural simulator at TCT 2011. The Compass simulator is small enough to fit in one shipping case and can be checked as luggage on an airplane. It takes less than five minutes to set up and can be easily used in the physician's office.

Each year I attend Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT), I comb the event and its sessions looking for the next big trend or technological innovations in cardiovascular devices. Below are my finds for the most cutting-edge and futuristic technologies at TCT 2011.
Providing exceptional cardiovascular care for patients to achieve the best possible outcomes is the number one goal for ...
November 16, 2011 — Non-adherence to antiplatelet therapy – which prevents blood clots following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) – was associated with higher rates of both ischemic and bleeding events at 30 days. Results of the PARIS registry were presented at the 23rd annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium, sponsored by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation.
November 16, 2011 — MedSolutions announced the launch of its Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) Surgery Management Program. The system uses evidence-based guidelines to ensure the clinical appropriateness of ICD and cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) implantation and directs members to the most qualified physicians and facilities.
November 16, 2011 — The American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) issued a response voicing concerns over the implications of a study published this week in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
Cardiac positron emission tomography (PET) is growing in popularity among cardiologists because it provides the ability ...
November 16, 2011 — Heart failure patients with a previous myocardial infarction showed an average of 12 percent improvement one year following an investigative treatment that infused them with their own stem cells. The results triple the 4 percent improvement average the researchers projected for the Phase I trial.
November 16, 2011 – BSP Biological Signal Processing, which develops and manufactures products for the non-invasive, accurate diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD), recently announced the successful completion of a comprehensive clinical research study evaluating the performance of the company’s HyperQ technology in diagnosing CAD. An article describing the study and its results was accepted for publication in the American Journal of Cardiology.

November 16, 2011 – Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development announced that adding oral rivaroxaban to standard antiplatelet therapy significantly reduced the composite primary efficacy endpoint of cardiovascular-related deaths, heart attacks or strokes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) compared to those receiving standard therapy alone. Results from the pivotal Phase 3 ATLAS ACS 2 TIMI 51 trial presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions and published in the New England Journal of Medicine also showed that rivaroxaban significantly increased rates of major bleeding, but did not create an excess risk of fatal bleeding over standard therapy alone.
November 16, 2011 — Coronary thrombectomy in conjunction with percutaneous coronary intervention improved the rates of ST-segment elevation resolution when compared to a control group but did not show large differences in reduction of infarct size.
November 15, 2011 — A two-year study of patients in the landmark PARTNER trial confirms the one-year findings and supports transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) as the standard-of-care.
Change Healthcare Cardiology Hemodynamics is an integrated hemodynamic monitoring system for monitoring vital signs and ...
November 15, 2011 — A clinical trial of patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and stable angina showed rapid genotyping followed by selective administration of prasugrel to carriers of a common genetic variant resulted in decreased high on-treatment platelet reactivity (platelet non-responder rate) compared to standard therapy.
November 15, 2011 – The risk of late stent thrombosis (ST) in the first generation of drug-eluting stents continues for up to seven years after implantation, and certain types of patients, including smokers and those who are younger, are at higher risk, according to results of the DESERT registry. Results of the trial were presented at the 23rd annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium, sponsored by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation.
November 15, 2011 – A clinical trial that compared the use of drug-eluting balloons (DEB) and bare metal stents (BMS) to both bare metal stents alone and drug-eluting stents (DES) found that the drug-eluting balloon group did not meet the primary endpoint of reduced late lumen loss. Results of the DEB-AMI (Drug Eluting Balloon in Acute Myocardial Infarction) trial were presented at the 23rd annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium, sponsored by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation.
