In memoriam: Bruce Wilkoff, MD
January 11, 2024 — It is with great sadness that the Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiology (DAIC) team has learned of the passing of Bruce Wilkoff, MD, FHRS, Director of the Cardiac Pacing and Tachyarrhythmia Devices in the Cleveland Clinic Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of CWRU, on January 7. Dr. Wilkoff often lent his expertise to the pages of DAIC, sharing his knowledge on EP lead extraction, including this video: EP Lead Extraction Strategies.
According to his published obituary, "Bruce's skilled hands and upright heart blessed his family, friends, church, and his Messiah. His work life included 37 years as a cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic after earning degrees from Cleveland Heights High School in 1973, Northwestern University in 1976 (Biomedical Engineering), and Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1979 with post-MD training at CWRU Hospitals and Ohio State. Bruce held the Deb Family Endowed Chair in Lead Management. His accomplishments include nine U.S. patents plus articles in the New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet."
