June 8, 2023 — The Society for Vascular Medicine (SVM) is gearing up with a full program schedule as the June 23 Early Bird Registration deadline nears for the 3-day event, Vascular Scientific Sessions 2023, to be held September 7-10 at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC.
Program Highlights
The full agenda for the 3-day conference will include nearly 100 faculty, with an estimated 300+ vascular clinicians and scientists in attendance, over 100 posters and cases, expert panel discussions, workshops and keynote speakers, with the opportunity for participants to obtain 20+ CME and MOC credits.
Friday, September 8
President-Elect Ido Weinberg, MD, MD, MSc, MHA, FSVM, Massachusetts General Hospital, will kick off the meeting with a welcome address. A “Year in Review” will be moderated by Ana I. Casanegra, MD, MS, Mayo Clinic, along with Marc Bonaca, MD, MPH, University of Colorado School of Medicine who will facilitate seven separate short presentations and lead discussions. Additionally, a summary session of the “Best of Vascular Medicine” by Editor-in-Chief, Heather L. Gornik, MD, RVT, RPVI, FSVM, Vascular Medicine Editor in Chief, University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute.
The Jay D. Coffman Young Investigator Awards will be presented on the first day of the Vascular Scientific Sessions. Also on Friday, a total of five presentations will comprise the Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Block, as well as a keynote and discussion to follow. Day one will close with a Welcome Reception and Awards Presentation.
Saturday, September 9
The President’s Address will be given by Herbert D. Aronow, MD, MPH, FSVM, FACC, FSCAI, Henry Ford Health, Michigan State University, on Saturday morning. Aronow will welcome SVM incoming president Weinberg at the SVM business meeting to begin at 4:00 p.m.
Highlighted original research will be presented on September 9, as will a Hospitalist session, chaired by G. Jay Bishop, MD FACP FSVM RPVI, Cleveland Clinic.
In addition, a risk factor workshop will be co-moderated by Stanislav Henkin, MD, MPH, RPVI, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, along with Elizabeth Ratchford, MD, of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Another workshop, on VSS POCUS, is scheduled, as are sessions on Psychosocial Care in Peripheral Artery Disease, and Aortic Disease. A session on Cutting-Edge Arterial Disease, will feature moderators Yogen Kanthi, MD, of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Connie Hess, MD, MHS, University of Colorado School of Medicine.
A keynote address, “Vasculitis in the Modern Era,” will be presented by Peter Grayson, MD, MSc, at 11:30 a.m. on day two of the Vascular Scientific Sessions 2023. Grayson is Investigator, Chief, Vasculitis Translational Research Program, and Associate Director, NIAMS Rheumatology Fellowship Program with the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in Bethesda, MD. As noted in an NIH biographical summary, currently, an Earl Stadtman Investigator at the NIAMS, Grayson’s research focuses on clinical and translational research across many forms of systemic vasculitis.
Sunday, September 10
An early morning 5K Fun Run and Walk will be held on the final day, followed by a hands-on vascular lab, and a “Tips for Readers: Where Did I Go Wrong & Why?” session which will include 2 presentations and 3 cases with discussion, to be co-moderated by Merry Ellen D. Barnett, MD, University of Virginia, and Alireza Vaziri, MD, RPVI, St.Elizabeth's Medical Center/Boston University.
