Developments in AIU, Plaque Assessment to be Showcased at SCCT2022

The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) has released an update on the device manufacturers set to display their latest technologies at the 2022 Annual Scientific Meeting (SCCT2022) being held in Las Vegas July 15 – 17.

July 13, 2022 — The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) has released an update on the device manufacturers set to display their latest technologies at the 2022 Annual Scientific Meeting (SCCT2022) being held in Las Vegas July 15 – 17. The industry’s top computed tomography (CT) companies — Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc., GE Healthcare, HeartFlow and Siemens Healthineers — have chosen SCCT2022 as a key platform to inform and connect with physicians about their products and services.

“Partnering with SCCT provides Canon Medical the opportunity to collaborate and share our innovations with leaders in cardiac CT with the shared vision of advancing cardiac care to improve the quality of life for all people,” according to Rick Banner, team leader for strategic development at Canon Medical Systems USA, Inc.

New technology to be presented by Canon Medical at SCCT2022 includes Super Resolution for Cardiac CT with Precise IQ Engine (PIQE) Deep Learning Reconstruction, designed to fully utilize the maximum resolution of the detector. PIQE delivers ultra-high resolution cardiac imaging on Canon Medical’s wide-area detector CT system for improved assessment of in-stent restenosis and plaque evaluation.

Cleerly, Inc. and Canon Medical have partnered to tackle coronary artery disease, offering AI-enabled whole-heart atherosclerosis evaluation with auto-generated reports supporting consistent and clinically relevant results. Whether building a new advanced cardiac CT imaging program from the ground up or already have an existing one, this integrated solution is expected to help accelerate and enhance cardiac CT programs.

New at this year's SCCT Annual Scientific Meeting, GE Healthcare will be showcasing technologies that provide high-volume temporal resolution and automation to deliver an effortless motion-free cardiac CT images at any heart rate. The CardioGraphe is a purpose-built CT specifically for CCTA is optimized for the heart, providing excellent diagnostic image quality in an efficient cardiac-focused workflow. Another innovation included the New Revolution Apex Platform with a 0.23 sec/rotation and best temporal resolution - 19.5 msec effective temporal resolution with Snapshot Freeze 2 that reduces cardiac induced motion artifacts in the whole heart. The GE Healthcare booth (#201) will provide more about their one-beat technology and some of the latest advancements in cardiac.

Co-founder of HeartFlow, Charles A. Taylor, PhD, will be part of the AI/ML Hands-On Workshop on Thursday, July 14 and at the Novel Technologies Session on Friday, July 15. HeartFlow (Booth #207) is also featuring the poster presentation “Nomographic CT Quantitative Plaque Data from A Large International Population” by Georgios Tzimas, MD, on Friday, July 15, 9:40 – 10:25 am; as well as an oral presentation “Quantitative Assessment Of AI-based CCTA Plaque Volume Compared With IVUS” by Kersten Petersen, PhD, on Saturday, July 16, 9:40 – 9:51 am.

The Siemens Healthineers (Booth #113) sponsored symposium, “Real-world results: Cardiovascular care with the world’s first photon-counting CT” will showcase the NAEOTOM Alpha, Siemens’ photon-counting CT scanner released in November 2021 and hailed by the FDA as “the First Major Imaging Device Advancement for Computed Tomography in Nearly a Decade.”

“We, at Siemens Healthineers, are very excited to share some of the early clinical experiences on the NAEOTOM Alpha, the world’s first photon counting CT scanner, from two of the world’s leading academic medical centers,” said Matthew Dedman, Senior Director of Product Marketing, Computed Tomography, Siemens Healthineers – North America. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase cases and present the clinical benefits of the NAEOTOM Alpha for cardiovascular computed tomography.”

During the symposium, Lynne M. Hurwitz-Koweek, MD, and Ricardo Budde, MD, PhD, will share cases on their photon-counting CT scanners from their respective institutions, including the latest features that have been approved for use in Europe.

Sai Rapaka, PhD, Head of Strategy, AI and Digital Innovation for Siemens Healthineers, will highlight some of the key artificial intelligence innovations under development by Siemens that are specific to coronary CT.

Along with the latest technology to support cardiovascular care programs, the Siemens Healthineers booth (#113) will showcase education initiatives like the 2021 Chest Pain Guideline Webinar Series to help drive larger adoption of coronary CT as a frontline testing strategy.
