Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography Annual Scientific Meeting SCCT24 Preview

The countdown has begun for the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) annual meeting, SCCT24, “At the heart of it,” to be held July 18-21, in Washington, DC. June 27, 2024 — The countdown has begun for the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) 19th Annual Scientific Meeting, SCCT24, “At the heart of it,” to be held July 18-21, in Washington, DC. Planners have designed this year’s program and events to engage physicians, trainees, technologists and healthcare professionals in a complete overview of the cardiovascular CT field.

Attendees can join with their peers and participate in sessions on structural heart disease, congenital heart disease, guidelines and trials, AI/Machine learning, technical aspects of cardiac CT, coronary artery disease, vascular heart disease, debates and games and early career topics. Additionally, the exhibit hall will provide an opportunity to discuss the latest cardiac CT technology innovations with vendors, while discussions in the poster area ofer a deep dive into current studies and applications of the latest products.

Registration includes live educational sessions and poster sessions on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Saturday, as well as full access to the recorded sessions following the meeting, and the opportunity to earn 45.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits; in addition, SCCT24 program planners note that 13.75 Category A ASRT CE credits are available for Technologists. Event planners have also recently announced that the deadline to receive the SCCT2024 room rate discount at the Marriott Marquis Washington, DC has been extended to Tuesday, July 2 by 5:00 pm ET.

Featured Speakers

More than 150 speakers will present the latest trends and hot topics in cardiovascular CT, including these featured speakers: Anjali Chelliah, MD, of Morristown Medical Center and Columbia University Medical Center; Michelle Williams, MD, PhD, FSCCT, from the University of Edinburgh; Pamela Woodard, MD, MSCCT, with Washington University School of Medicine; Tiffany Chen, MD, FSCCTHospital of the University of Pennsylvania; and Stephan Achenbach, MD, MSCCT with University of Erlangen, among other leading cardiologists.

Program Highlights and Joint Sessions with SCAI, ASE

Day one will kick off Friday, July 19 with the Opening Session, followed by a “Joint session with the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Intervention (SCAI): Role of CT in planning interventional treatment” and, among others, a session focused on “Technical advances in cardiovascular imaging.” A Welcome Reception will close out the day in the exhibit hall from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. for all attendees.

The tracks for this year include: Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML); Congenital heart disease; coronary artery disease; fundamentals in cardiovascular CT; guidelines and trials; structural heart disease; technical aspects of cardiac CT; vascular; and games and debates, including “Great debates in cardiac CT,” and the always popular “CT Jeopardy,” to be held Saturday afternoon, from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Also on Saturday, attendees can join in the “Joint session with the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) on structural heart intervention planning and procedural guidance.”

Three break-out rooms will house a wide range of topics and findings from leading experts throughout SCCT24.

The SCCT Business Meeting will convene Saturday morning, followed by a general session on “AI and CCT: Vision and Future.” Also on Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., “SCCT2024 Best Original Science” will be presented, and from 3:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., a general session on “Cardiac CT in clinical trials” will be featured.

The closing session on Sunday will run from 11:50 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., led by Chairs Ed Nicol, MD, MBA, MSCCT, who served as SCCT President 2023-2024 term, and Maros Ferencik, MD, PhD, MCR, MSCCT, incoming 2024-2025 President. Nichol will present take home points and highlights, and welcome the keynote speaker, Koen Nieman, MD, PhD, MSCCT. He and Ferencik will complete the presidential transition, followed by the incoming President’s Address by Maros, Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, School of Medicine in Beaverton (OR).

Specialty Events

A wide range of specialty events are also being offered this year, which SCCT24 planners describe as a combination of hands-on workshops, symposia and courses prior to main scientific program designed to give an in-depth look at targeted techniques and technologies. Pre-program events will be held on Wednesday, July 17, Thursday, July 18 and Saturday, July 20 and require separate registration, and the planners also noted that early registration if recommended as space is limited for these sessions:

  • CTA Academy
  • Tricuspid, pulmonic and LAAO workshop
  • Hands on Hearts: Valvular heart disease workshop
  • Technologist hands-on workshop

  • CHD Roundtable | Career Paths in Pediatric and Congenital Cardiac CT - A brown bag lunchtime panel discussion
