The Piccolo Xpress is designed to enable cardiologists to quickly run CLIA-waived Creatinine and BUN tests via the kidney check panel to assess renal function prior to administering contrast agents for a cardiac MRI or CT scans.
The injection of these gadolinium or iodine-based contrast agents may put patients at risk for such things as contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN), acute renal failure or nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF). The portable Piccolo Xpress provides lab results in less than 12 minutes with reportedly the precision and accuracy comparable to the reference laboratory – without having to conform to CLIA lab requirements.
