FDA Clears Clean, Convenient, Cost-effective Gel Ultrasound Spray

BB Medical Surgical Thixo-Gel FDA Clearance Ultrasound Systems

June 4, 2014 — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently cleared BB Medical Surgical’s Thixo-Gel, which is sprayed on to the patient to enable quicker and easier ultrasound scans. The company says it has the same good image quality as leading brands of ultrasound gel, yet sprays on thin and firm and does not run off curved or vertical surfaces. It is also extremely concentrated, with clinics getting more than 100 scans per bottle. Thixo-Gel fits into many gel warmers and is easy to transport and store.

The vendor says it saves money because it is concentrated and patient wipe and towel needs are reduced.

The technology behind Thixo-Gel is Deppe Labs in Germany, a family-owned company that has been a leader in medical products for more than 30 years. Thixo-Gel is made in the United States to stringent FDA current Good Manufacturing Practices.
