November 16, 2016 — TeraRecon, together with full-color 3-D printing cloud provider WhiteClouds, announced new technological and workflow process to print highly detailed models directly from the TeraRecon software. The new 3D Print Packs make online, cloud-based 3-D reconstruction and printing simple, fast and affordable.
Using the process, there is no need for a 3-D printer, third-party software or the use of large STL files. With a user-friendly workflow and zero startup costs, customers can quickly create high resolution and life-like anatomical models.
TeraRecon President and CEO Jeff Sorenson noted that a lack of resources and demand needed to purchase a printer, maintain the hardware and justify the overhead have challenged access and affordability of 3-D printing.
Still, 3-D printing has proven to be a powerful and useful tool, specifically in patient education, pre-surgical planning, oncology, implantable devices and more.
Sorenson noted that the 3D Print Packs can be turned on with every current TeraRecon installed base system.
WhiteClouds’ patent pending "Hinge and Slice" proprietary designed models are used in complex surgeries across the nation. Jay Bishoff, M.D., urologic surgeon and director of the Intermountain Urological Institute for Intermountain Healthcare, stated, “Having performed over a thousand procedures, I am confident that 3-D models can play a role in helping good surgeons become great. “
TeraRecon’s 3D Print Packs will be showcased at the upcoming Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) show, Nov. 27-Dec. 1 in Chicago.
WhiteClouds also announced the launch of 3DyourSCAN, a life-size color printed, anatomical model of a patient's computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan designed to improve collaboration and education between physicians and patients.
