New ACR-AAPM Radiation Safety Officer Resources Available

Joint document provides sample policies, procedures and forms to help with dose monitoring

ACR, AAPM, Radiation Safety Officer Resources

April 28, 2015 — The American College of Radiology (ACR) and American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) are offering a new resource document for physicians and medical physicists serving as radiation safety officers at medical facilities. The ACR-AAPM Radiation Safety Officer Resources was developed jointly by medical physicists from both associations.

“The new resource explains, organizes and provides links to essential federal and advisory resources that every radiation safety officer needs to have at their fingertips,” said Richard Geise, Ph.D., chair of the ACR Commission on Medical Physics and certified radiological physicist at Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

Jessica Clements, MS, project chair and chief physicist at Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles added, “The resources also provide useful sample policies, procedures and forms to help both new and veteran radiation safety officers.”
