March 28, 2011- Terumo Medical Corp., a U.S.-based subsidiary of Japan-based Terumo Corp., expressed its condolences and support to its Japanese colleagues and others who are managing the extremely difficult situation resulting
from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Terumo made a donation of 100 million yen (about $1.2 million) in supplies and money to support disaster relief in Japan. In addition, Terumo Medical Corp., in cooperation with the American Red Cross, has enacted an internal dollar-for-dollar matching
contribution program for all of its associates to raise additional funds.
Terumo said the initial earthquake and tsunami caused no damage or casualties at its Tokyo-based headquarters or at our Japan-based manufacturing plants. While one subsequent aftershock created minor damage to one Terumo plant, this damage has not had a material effect so far on the company’s ability to supply products to the global market. However, Terumo said continues to assess the status
of all its Japanese suppliers who provide raw materials for the production of Terumo products at all its global plants.
The company said all its Japanese-based production facilities have resumed operation and it is effectively managing other factors, such as the rolling blackouts instituted by Tokyo Electric Power Corp. (TEPCO) to minimize any potential impact upon its production operation.
Terumo develops, manufactures, and distributes a variety of medical devices including products for use in cardiothoracic surgery, interventional procedures, and transfusion medicine.
