Research Validates Cardiovascular Noncontrast Imaging

Japanese radiologist Katsumi Nakamura, M.D., of Tobata Kyoritsu Hospital, received first place honors for his research in the area of non-contrast magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) imaging at the 14th annual International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) Scientific Meeting & Exhibition. His poster presentation compared noncontrast fresh blood imaging (FBI) to 16-slice computed tomography (CT) for the diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease using Toshiba’s 1.5T MRI system.

“Toshiba and its partners have pioneered research into the use of contrast-free MRA for the diagnosis of peripheral vascular disease,” said Bob Giegerich, director, MR Business Unit for Toshiba. “ISMRM’s recognition of Dr. Nakamura’s research further highlights FBI as an effective technique within the scientific community, and strengthens the use of MR technology in this area of medicine.”
