A 64-slice combination PET/CT system for cardiac imaging, the Discovery VCT reportedly combines high-resolution capabilities of GE’s volumetric CT with metabolic and physiologic capabilities of its PET system, aiming to result in a more accurate diagnosis and identification of heart disease, cancer and neurological disorders.
With the system, physicians can assess areas of the heart that are not getting sufficient blood supply and look for stenosis in the coronary arteries, said GE.
In one rotation, the reportedly system creates 64 images, totaling 40 mm of anatomical coverage, and combines them to form a 3D view of the patient’s anatomy.
