Siemens Awards Winner of National 'Win an MRI' Contest

January 25, 2008 - The winner of the Siemens online video 'Win an MRI' contest is Lockport Memorial Hospital in Lockport, NY, winning a brand new Magnetom Essenza for their staff-produced video that demonstrated the complications and inconveniences posed to patients and physicians when a hospital lacks an in-house MRI.
The Magnetom Essenza, which was introduced to the market in October 2007, developed specifically for the small hospital market, is expected to help physicians deliver improved imaging services in neurology, orthopedics, body imaging, angiography, cardiology, breast imaging, oncology and pediatric imaging.
Currently, when a Lockport physician prescribes an MRI to a patient, the patient must travel to an offsite facility, such as a private diagnostic imaging center or another hospital, delaying diagnosis and treatment time. Once installed, the Magnetom Essenza will be available for diagnostic imaging 24-hours a day.
Siemens Medical Solutions will also provide Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus, GA, with a new Magnetom Essenza, in recognition of the struggle to rebuild following a devastating 2007 tornado. The company took notice of Sumter's story in the company's 2007 Win an MRI Contest and will donate a Magnetom Essenza MRI to Sumter, to be delivered once the hospital gets back on its feet and has the facility to support it.
