January 3, 2013 — The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) announced the publication of the SCCT Expert Consensus Document on Computed Tomography Imaging Before Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)/Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) in the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (JCCT). This consensus document provides recommendations about the use of CT imaging in patients scheduled for TAVR/TAVI, including data acquisition, interpretation and reporting.
The SCCT Writing Group, headed by Dr. Stephan Achenbach of Erlangen, Germany, has been developing the document since early 2012, and it is contained in the November/December JCCT focus issue on Cardiac Structure: Valves.
"The writing group put together a truly useful document with up-to-date scientific data and clinically oriented specific recommendations, which will maximize the diagnostic impact of computed tomography in the selection of candidates for transcatheter aortic valve replacement and in the preparation of the procedure," said Achenbach. "It can be expected that this will translate into better outcomes."
