Low Dose SPECT Imaging Helps Reduce Radiation Exposure

June 3, 2010 – A single photon emission tomography (SPECT) system may significantly reduce patient and staff radiation exposure by using significantly less radioactive imaging agent.

Spectrum Dynamics, developer of the new D-SPECT cardiac imaging system, is announcing the two studies of the system are now underway at this weekend’s Society for Nuclear Medicine (SNM) Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City.

The system uses less technetium-99m (Tc-99m) isotope than conventional cameras, which reduces the radiation dose to the patient, medical staff and allows more studies to be performed every day. Also, newly published multicenter trial results in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology show D-SPECT provides myocardial perfusion imaging quality equivalent to conventional SPECT imaging in less time.

Spectrum Dynamics will exhibit the system at its booth, 501, at the SNM meeting.
