May 21, 2008 - At the Heart Rhythm 2008 President's Reception on Friday, May 16, outgoing President Bruce Lindsay, M.D., FHRS, passed the gavel to incoming President N.A. Mark Estes, III, M.D., FHRS, in a ceremony where Dr. Estes said he would focus the society's efforts on "three major areas during the next year: strategic planning, education and health policy and advocacy."
The new president went on to tell HRS members that to ensure HRS' mission and activities evolve as the field grows the Society’s Strategic Planning Task Force has collected new data about its profession and the Heart Rhythm Society will hold a Strategic Planning Summit in October where members and stakeholders will review the findings and examine the mission of the society and its core values. "This Summit will help determine our path for the next five years, " Dr. Estes said.
The organization will continue providing educational content at its annual scientific sessions, board review courses, Advanced Ablation Course and new 360° initiatives.
Dr. Estes added, "The Hearth Rhythm Society will also have an intense focus on health policy and advocacy issues. We are assuming a larger responsibility for shaping health policy and advocating for our patients, which is a sign of the maturation of, and increased respect for, our organization."
