High Tech Firms to Reconnect

Healthcare IT companies will again converge this winter to measure their ability to integrate with each other during the IHE North American Connectathon, an annual event that takes place prior to the national meeting of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. The e Connectathon will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago, IL, the week of January 15-19, 2007. Completed applications were due on Sept. 15, 2006.

IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. IHE promotes the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical needs in support of optimal patient care. Systems developed in accordance with IHE communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively. The American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) as well as HIMSS are partners with IHE.
